Therapy in Scotland

Find mental health support in Scotland, including local referral routes, charity services and costs, with clear links to help you start.

What is here

Your GP can help you find NHS counselling or therapy in Scotland. They may refer you to a local service.

SAMH Time for You offers support by phone or video for mild to moderate mental health difficulties. You can refer yourself if you live in Scotland and are aged 16 or over.

The service offers up to eight sessions. Appointments take place during weekday working hours. If you already receive psychological therapy, SAMH asks you to finish that support before applying.

What it costs

Time for You is free. Its support includes wellbeing coaching and talking therapy.

Private therapists set their own fees. Check the session cost before you book, including whether a lower fee is available.

How ViaCara helps in Scotland

An online session is a video or phone call at a time you choose. You do not need to travel, and you can change practitioner if the fit is wrong.

The UK Crisis Resources page lists people you can talk to at any hour.

Thanks for your interest. We're not taking on new clients at the moment.
