# Retiring

Retirement can take your routine and your sense of purpose with the work. Space to talk about who you are now and what fills the day.

Retirement is a date in a calendar. The feeling that follows it keeps its own time.

This page offers routes to support. It cannot tell you how your retirement should feel.

## Why do I feel *flat* when I should be free?

A long-wanted change can still leave you flat when it arrives. The pressure has gone. So has the shape it gave the week.

You do not have to explain that before you talk about it.

## Who am I *without* the job?

Work answers a lot of questions about who you are, quietly and every day. When it stops, the questions come back.

Those questions deserve a real conversation. They rarely settle on their own.

## The days have lost their *shape*

A working week gives structure that you rarely notice until it goes. Mornings can stretch. Evenings can arrive with nothing in between.

Building a new shape takes longer than most people expect.

## We are *together* all day now

Two people at home all day is a new arrangement, not a failing. Habits that worked around a job may not fit it.

You can talk about this on your own or together. [Our couples page](https://viacara.com/support/couples/) covers the joint route.

## My friends were all people I *worked* with

Work supplies company without anyone arranging it. When the job ends, that company can end with it.

Making new company later in life takes effort. Many people find it hard.

## I am *dreading* it and it has not happened yet

You can talk about retirement before the last day arrives. Planning the money is common. Planning the days is rarer.

Bringing it up early gives you time to think it through.

## Is this *grief*?

Losing a working life can bring feelings that look like grief. You may be mourning a role, a place and people you saw daily.

[Our grief page](https://viacara.com/support/grief/) may fit if that is how it feels.

## Money is *tighter* than I expected

Free government-backed guidance exists for pension choices. Pension Wise gives that guidance to people aged fifty and over.

It is separate from talking support. Both can run at the same time.

## Is it too *late* to start something?

Nothing about retiring closes the door on a new direction. Some people go back to work part-time. Others find the pull elsewhere.

A professional can help you work out what you want, rather than what you ought to want.

If this has left you thinking about ending your life, [our crisis page](https://viacara.com/crisis/gb/) lists who to talk to now.

Thanks for your interest. We're not taking on new clients at the moment.

## Want to talk about what comes *next*?

We ask what matters to you, then find professionals who fit.

Leave your email and we'll let you know as soon as we're ready for you.

This conversation helps us find you the right support.

What you share helps us understand what you're looking for and find someone who fits. Your email keeps you updated on what's happening next and isn't shared with anyone we introduce you to.
